How old were you when you found out there was no Easter Bunny?
I was about 7. I was helping my older brother take the trash to the burn barrel, in the back yard and there amongst all that trash were the remains of the egg dying kits !! I can clearly remember turning that box over in my hands .... wondering what it was .... what it meant. Honestly, I think, I already had my doubts about the existence of such a creature as an egg coloring/delivering bunny, 'cause when my brother told me what I was holding in my hands ... I believed him immediately. And so just like that ...... Poof !! No more Easter bunny!! But, hey ...... the next year I got in on the fun of dying the eggs !!
And then there were the baby chicks .... all dyed up in the pastels of Spring. How cute they were. What a mess they made ! We would have them for a few weeks, 'til they started losing their pretty colors and then take them to my Grandmothers farm to be with the other chickens. And, of course, later in the year when we would go to her house and she would make a fried chicken dinner, we had no clue that we were eating those very same chicks. Thank God, we had stopped getting the Easter chicks long before I understood that the chickens in her hen house were the same ones that she would cook for dinners !! The horrors of it all !!
Have a Blessed and Joy-filled Easter !!
